I started photography in earnest as a grad student in Anthropology and Folklore. Working with and learning from cultural groups, I used photo and video as means to document my collaborators lives and stories. Subsequently, I began to see and conceive and interact with the world in a new way(s). I began to develop a more profound and intimate relationship with my city, New York City. My work has changed over the years, but I still think in terms of Peoples, Places, Practices. In other words, how do we each carve out a piece of this thing called life and make it uniquely and expressively our own, often in spite of the obstacles placed in our way? Below is a sampling of my documentary work. Please do visit my cultural website, E. B. Gallardo Ethnography, and my IG page that reflects this work.
